RustlerScript | Basics

RustlerScript Compatibility

RustlerScript can be ran on almost any platform, from Visual Studio Code on a Mac to Visual Studio Enterprise on Windows. However, there are some details that you might want to consider before diving into the RustlerScript environment.

RustlerScript will run on MacOS Versions 10.1 and later, and runs in Visual Studio Code/Visual Studio. In addition, it runs on Windows 7/8/10, again on VS Code and VS. Visual Studio versions supported are: Community, Professional, and Enterprise. It also runs on Linux, including Red Hat, Mint, Ubuntu, and Debian.

Configuring RustlerScript

RustlerScript needs to be configured in order to be used. However, unlike Videos languages, it does not need to be installed, one advantage of setup that RustlerScript has. To configure RustlerScript, just follow the steps below:

In Visual Studio Code:

  1. Choose RustlerScript as your language. A dialog box will open, asking you to set it up.
  2. It will ask you to log into your Rustler account. Enter your credentials, and click Next.
  3. Follow the onscreen instructions, and click Finish after the last step. Then a loading bar will show up.
  4. Follow the onscreen instructions, and click Finish after the last step. Then a loading bar will show up.
  5. Congratulations! Once the loading bar disappears, you will have completed RustlerScript setup.

In Visual Studio 2019 (All Versions Are the Same)

  1. Select File, New.
  2. When the New File dialog box opens, select a new RustlerScript file.
  3. When the RustlerScript Setup Wizard launches, enter your Rustler account credentials, and click next.
  4. Follow the onscreen instructions, and click Finish when you have completed the last step.
  5. Then the file will load. Congratulations! You have completed RustlerScript setup.

Although most Videos third-party RustlerScript sellers recommend that you should be using Visual Studio Professional or higher, we think that it is still fine to be using Visual Studio Community or even Visual Studio Code to write intermediate RustlerScript applications. However, if you're planning on writing major web applications and desktop apps, then you might want to consider moving up to Visual Studio Professional because of its powerful testing and monitoring tools.
